We left Pictou and headed toward North Sydney where we will catch the ferry to Newfoundland. Along the way we crossed over the Canso Causeway onto Cape Breton Island
Crossing the causeway
We stopped for lunch in Beddeck at an Alexander Graham Bell museum. We had the most gorgeous spot and weather for a picnic lunch.
The museum had a replica of the Silver Dart, the plane that made the first flight in Canada on a nearby frozen lake
Very fun art by a local artist with scenes from pop culture
Back into the truck for our journey to the ferry. We are all excited and nervous.
In line for the ferry! Now it’s time to wait.
Driving on:
We had to be organized and strategic In what we brought from the car as we are not allowed to go back to the car during the journey and we’re staying overnight in a berth so we need clothes, snacks, medicine, pillows etc! The journey is lasts from 5:30 pm to 10:00 Am the next day.
Our first stop after dropping our stuff in the berth was the lounge to eat our picnic supper. (Food was available but the options were pretty limited. It was good we brought options)
Every last spot filled
Good night. When we wake up we will be almost there.
This post brought back great memories of my own crossing to Nfld. I went from North Sydney to Port aux Basques, but we loaded at 10 p.m. and got there early the next day, with Port aux Basques dock emerging through the morning mist. I remember sleeping like a baby in my ferry berth. It was a nice calm crossing. Nfld. is amazing! I can't wait to see your posts from there.
